Slugs are a fact of life in wet, shady gardens and the Pacific Northwest. They target smooth, tender leaves (hostas are their favorite, which is unfortunate). Resistant plants tend to be tough-leafed, aromatic, or fuzzy. Ornamental grasses are largely ignored. Ferns survive. Foxglove, despite its lush appearance, is usually left alone. Building a garden around slug-resistant plants is more effective than any trap or bait.
